“What If I’m Just Making This Up?” – The Most Common Fear in QHHT (And Why It’s Totally Normal)
If you’ve ever been curious about QHHT, or even found yourself in a session, there’s a good chance this thought has popped into your head:
“What if I’m just making this up?”
You wouldn’t be alone. This is hands down the most common fear I hear from clients — especially when they’re dropping into that liminal space where imagination, memory, emotion, and spirit all start to blend.
And I get it. We’re not used to trusting that part of ourselves. We’re trained to believe that only what’s logical, linear, and provable is valid. So when something arises that feels spontaneous, emotional, symbolic, or dreamlike, the first reflex is doubt.
But here’s the truth:
That doubt doesn’t mean the session isn’t working.
It actually means it is.
When your conscious mind starts to relax, the subconscious can speak. And the subconscious doesn’t communicate in spreadsheets and bullet points. It speaks in images, emotions, memories, and symbols — just like a dream.
And just like dreams, what arises may not make sense to the mind…
but it can hold profound truth for the heart.
My Take on “What If I’m Just Making It Up?”
When clients bring this up in session, here’s what I usually say:
So what if you are?
What if, in that moment, your subconscious was “making something up”?
Would that make it any less meaningful?
Think About Dreams
We all “make up” our dreams every night — and yet they help us process deep emotions, reveal patterns, and sometimes shift our entire perspective.
QHHT happens in the theta brainwave state — the same frequency as dreaming.
It’s not random.
It’s deeply intelligent.
So even if something arises in a session that feels imagined, if it helps you understand yourself more clearly, move through grief, access forgiveness, or reframe a lifelong fear — then why should it matter whether it was “real” in the way your logical mind wants it to be?
That’s the Gift of This Work
Your conscious mind doesn’t have to validate the experience.
Your soul already knows what’s real.
That said, I personally don’t believe people are just “making it up.”
I’ve had clients say things they couldn’t possibly have known, receive insights that ripple into their lives in uncanny ways, and I’ve experienced incredibly synchronistic moments in my own sessions — which I’ll be sharing more about in future posts.
But I always come back to this:
If it helps you heal, shift, or remember something sacred — then it’s real enough.
Trusting the Part of You That Knows
If this stirred something in you and you want to keep exploring, I’d love to share more.
You’re always welcome to follow along as I continue writing about this work, and if you ever feel ready for a session — or just want to ask a question — I’d be honored to connect.
